Dutch police warn RaidForums members against cybercrime
The users were warned that they were monitored by law enforcement.
The Dutch National Police announced on 12 April 2023 that they had contacted hundreds of former RaidForums users by email and letter, requesting them to delete stolen data and stop engaging in criminal online activities.
RaidForums, known for hosting, leaking and selling stolen data from breached organisations, was a notorious hacking and data leak forum. In April 2022, the administrator of the site and two accomplices were arrested for extorting money from companies through the threat of disclosure of stolen data. The RaidForums website and infrastructure were seized in an international law enforcement operation.
In addition, the Dutch police have been carrying out ‘stop calls’ with minors involved in the Raid forums. Information about the possible consequences of cybercrime is given to minors and their parents during these calls. The Dutch police have also developed a programme called GameChangers to prevent young people from getting involved in cybercrime.
