Facebook’s oversight board scope is expanded
Facebook oversight board widens scope to decide on content not removed by the platform, a key expansion of the board’s scope. Originally, it was conceived to rule only on appeals that required having content restored to the platform after it had been removed by Facebook moderators.
The oversight board was inaugurated six months ago with the mission to review Facebook’s moderation decisions. The board is independent from Facebook at a corporate level and only rules o select cases that passed through the platform internal review process. Since the board’s inauguration, it has published 7 decisions involving hate speech, misinformation and nudity.
