Indian government requires WhatsApp to withdraw new privacy policy
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology(MeitY) has asked WhatsApp to withdraw the planned update in its privacy policy. The new policy allows WhatsApp to share personal information, including phone number and location, with Facebook. The Ministry believes that this policy is unfair and discriminates against Indian users vis-à-vis users in Europe. WhatsApp argues that several Indian firms have similar policies and share even more data than the platform is planning to do.
