Alliance for Affordable Internet
The Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI) is a coalition of public sector, private sector, and not-for-profit organisations working to drive down the cost of broadband access through policy and regulatory change.
A4AI works through a blend of on-the-ground engagements, international advocacy, and robust research. It is currently working in Ghana, Liberia, Mozambique, Nigeria, Dominican Republic, and Myanmar. In each of these countries, A4AI builds multistakeholder coalitions to identify policy and regulatory solutions needed to develop open, competitive, and innovative broadband markets, and to overcome local barriers to affordability.
The Alliance has elaborated a set of policy and regulatory good practices that have been demonstrated to lower the cost of Internet access; these are endorsed by all members of the Alliance. A4AI publishes an annual ‘Affordability Report’, which looks at the policy frameworks in place in various countries around the world, and at how their implementation contributes to a more affordable Internet. The Alliance also publishes thematic case studies (on issues such as universal access and mobile data services) and country case studies (which analyse the state of broadband affordability in various countries).
