RightsCon Silicon Valley 2016
RightsCon Silicon Valley 2016 will be held on 30 March – 1 April 2016, at the Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco. It will focus on the issue of an open Internet. The conference goal is to produce measurable outcomes by convening the most influential voices across stakeholder lines on topical and current issues on the protection and future of the Internet.
Access Now held the first RightsCon in Silicon Valley in 2011, and the second regionally-focused conference in Rio in 2012. The first two events united more than 400 opinion leaders from across the sector and the world in attendance. The 2014 conference, held 3-5 March 2014, headed back to Silicon Valley and leveraged the experience of the two conferences that came before it.
Setting a precedent for future events, 2014 marked the first year Access Now opened up the conference programming to the experts: the participants. Working with a programming committee, RightsCon accepted and reviewed proposals for innovative, thought-provoking, and outcome-oriented sessions. The product was a programme that featured 120 sessions over a period of three days.
The most recent conference on 24-25 March 2015 in Manila highlighted the remarkable work being done in the region. With over 650 attendees from every sector, this most recent RightsCon was a reminder of the existence of a very powerful global digital rights community that is determined to preserve the open internet.
