Safer Internet Day 2016

Online

The 13th edition of Safer Internet Day will be celebrated worldwide on Tuesday, 9 February 2016. The theme for the day is: ‘Play your part for a better Internet’. Once again, all stakeholders – children and young people, parents and carers, teachers and educators, or industry and politicians – are invited to join in, to help mark the day and work together to build a better Internet for all. Safer Internet Day (SID) is organised by Insafe in February of each year to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially among children and young people across the world. Visit the event website for more information.

Playing our part for a safer Internet!

Safer20Internet20Day20infographicWho is targeting children online? Do children know how to keep themselves safe? Are parents aware what their children up to online?

Parents and educators need to teach children and young persons how to be responsible online. The Internet is a tool that enriches lives, improves education, and connects people. Yet many threats exist to people’s privacy, security, and safety. It can also be a challenge for parents to keep track of technological developments, especially those which prove popular among young persons, and for parents to be fully aware of how their children are spending their time online.

Tuesday, 9th February, 2016, is dedicated to Safer Internet Day. It is a celebration which aims to raise awareness about the opportunities – and issues surrounding the digital world.

If you are a parent or an educator, here’s how to do your part in keeping your children safe online:

  • Educate young users on how their data could be stolen, republished, and circulated beyond their control;
  • Teach them how to detect, report, and avoid cyber-bullying, peer pressure, and predators;
  • Have a two-way dialogue with children about social media and Internet use, expectations, and threats.

Protecting the web’s most vulnerable users is everyone’s responsibility. On 9 February 2016, take a few moments to educate yourself and your kids about the responsible, safe, and beneficial use of the Internet. Let’s play our part to create a safer online environment for our children!
