UN Group of Governmental Experts on Developments in the Field of Information and Telecommunications in the Context of International Security 2016
The first session of the fifth UN Group of Governmental Experts on Developments in the Field of Information and Telecommunications in the Context of International Security (UN GGE) will be held on 29 August – 2 September, in New York, USA.
The Group was established following Resolution 70/237 (December 2015) of the UN General Assembly, with the aim to continue the work of the previous four groups. It is therefore expected to continue to study, with a view to promoting common understandings, existing and potential threats in the sphere of information security and possible cooperative measures to address them, and how international law applies to the use of information and communications technologies by states, as well as norms, rules and principles of responsible behaviour of states, confidence-building measures and capacity-building. The Group is asked to report on its results at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, in September 2017.
