Second Session of the Working Group on the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway
The second session of the Working Group on the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway (AP-IS) will be held on 29-30 August 2016, in Guangzhou, China.
The Working Group was established at the request of the members of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia Pacific (ESCAP) with the aim to develop principles and norms, as well as a master plan, covering both the policy and technical aspects of the Asia-Pacific information superhighway. It held its first meeting in September 2015, when a recommendationw as made to create a Steering Group to develop an AP-IS master plan detailing the principles, deliverables, timeline, and financing mechanisms with a regional cooperation framework document.
In this context, the second session of the Working Group will be aimed, among others at informing the group if progress made towards AP-IS, and reviewing the work of the Steering Group and a draft AP-IS master plan and regional cooperation framework document.
