Senior Experts Dialogue on Science, Technology and Innovation and the African Transformation Agenda (SED 2016)
The third Senior Experts Dialogue on Science, Technology and Innovation and the African Transformation Agenda (SED) will be held on 2-4 November 2016, in Pretoria, Republic of South Africa. The meeting is organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the African Union Commission, and the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency in South Africa, with the support of the Department of Science and Technology of the Republic of South Africa.
The overarching theme for SED 2016 is ‘Cities as Innovation Hubs for Africa’s Transformation’. The event will include discussions on science, technology and innovation policies and frameworks, emerging issues, as well as sharing of experiences and peer learning. SED 2016 aims to identify, among others, modalities for African countries to deploy existing technologies and innovation to advance and improve the efficiency of their cities to enable them to serve as innovation hubs and centres.
SED is an initiative established by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, with the aim to support member states in using science, technology and innovation to drive the structural transformation of their economies and to achieve sustainable development goals.
