Global Internet Governance – Actors, Regulations, Transactions and Strategies (GIG-ARTS) Conference

30 Mar 2017 - 31 Mar 2017

Paris, France

The first European multidisciplinary conference on Global Internet Governance – Actors, Regulations and Strategies (GIG-ARTS) will be held on 30-31 March 2017, in Paris, France. The conference is organised by the GIG-ARTS Project, and is co-sponsored by the Governance & Regulation Chair of Paris Dauphine University, the ECPR Standing Group on Internet and Politics, the Global Internet Governance academic network (GigaNet), and Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. Supporters of the event include the French National Research Agency, the French National Center for Scientific Research, the University Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC Sorbonne Universités), the Computer Science Laboratory of Paris 6, and the Paris Institute for Advanced Study.

The GIG-ARTS conference will be dedicated to presentations and discussions on developments in  global Internet governance, and their implications in and beyond this field of research. The conference aims to complement and bridge between existing venues, such as established international or European disciplinary conferences in social science, and the Annual GigaNet Symposium. Its objectives are threefold: to foster the enlargement and diversification of this academic community in order to increase its visibility; to open more opportunities to young scholars, particularly from Europe and its neighbourhood; and to anchor its discussions in the European context, providing a space where the scholarly community can address regional challenges and contribute to regional discussions.

Under the overarching theme ‘Global Internet Governance as a Diplomacy Issue’, the GIG-ARTS 2017 will address themes such as Internet governance as a science diplomacy terrain; diplomacy at the crossroads of globalisation and digitalisation; case studies of European policy diffusion, defining Internet universality indicators; cybersecurity, cyber-peace and privacy: diplomatic and other options; Internet governance facing diital disruptions; and framing a European Internet governance science diplomacy.
