South School on Internet Governance 2017
The ninth edition of the South School on Internet Governance (SSIG) will be held on 3–7 April 2017, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The main objective of the school is to train new leaders of opinion in all aspects related with Internet governance, from a global perspective and with focus on the Latin America and Caribbean region. The programme trains university and postgraduate students from the region and from the rest of the wprls in understanding the complexity of the Internet governance ecosystem and its importance in the future of the Internet. The SSIG’s mission is to: increase the number of representatives of the Latin American and Caribbean region in the international Internet governnace debate spaces, motivate the new regional leaders of opinion to become active participants in Internet governance meetings and activities where the future of the Internet is shaped, and make them the future leaders on Internet governance in their countries and regions.
The programme of SSIG 2017 wll feature lectures and workshops on topics such as: challenges for a sustainable Internet, the global digital economy, the present and future of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), achievements and perspectives of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), security challenges and human rights protection for an open and accesible Internet, Internet infrastructures, network neutrality and zero rating, challenges of the Internet of Things, intellectual property rights, domain names, blockchain and cryptocurrencies, jurisdiction, a multicultural and diverse Internet, and youth and Internet governance.
