Broadband Days 2017
The European Commission will organise Broadband days 2017, on 20–21 November 2017, in Brussels, Belgium.
On the first day of the event, 20 November, EU Commissioners and high level representatives of the European Commission’s Directorates General responsible for Communications Networks, Agriculture and Rural Development, and Regional and Urban Policy, will publicly launch the European Network of Broadband Competence Offices (BCOs) and its Support Facility. The aim of the network is to provide technical support to representatives of local and regional authorities on ways to invest effectively in broadband, in combination with financial instruments, whenever possible. The launch will be accompanied by on the challenges that Europe faces in rolling out broadband, especially in rural and sub-urban areas, as well as the opportunities connectivity offers in bridging the digital divide. In the evening, the European Commission will give the European Broadband Award to successful high-capacity network projects across Europe.
The second day, 21 November, will be dedicated to a conference on ‘B-Day: Towards a Giga Europe’, which will explore the interactions and synergies between the 2025 strategic objectives, the regulatory changes, and funding instruments. Emphasis will be put on the role that these instruments could play in the post 2020 period to facilitate a better match between investors and projects promoters.
