Who Controls the Global Internet?
Session reports
The Swedish Institute of International Affairs will host an event on ‘Who controls the global Internet?’, on 6 March 2018, in Stockholm, Sweden.
During the event, participants will explore issues related to roles and responsibilities in Internet governance, while addressing questions such as:
- Where do power and control lie in the Internet as a global communications network? Is it with leading states or is the global Internet ruled by big multinationals such as Google and Microsoft?
- Do technical computer experts run a show that neither companies nor governments understand?
- Is Internet governance a model of new global democracy, where everyone including individual users can have their say?
Speakers will include representatives of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the RIPE Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC), and the University of Gothenburg.
