London, UK

The Commonwealth ICT Ministers Forum 2018 will be held on 18–20 June 2018, in London, UK. The event will include a closed-door ministerial meeting on 18 June, and an open conference on 19–20 June.

During the closed-door meeting, ICT ministers from Commonwealth countries will focus on the following issues:

  • Cybersecurity: cybersecurity capabilities, capacity building, computer emergency response team (CERT) preparedness, Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and security, artificial intelligence (AI), and privacy and security in relation to AI and IoT.
  • Over-the-top services: ICT applications and licencing considerations, quality of services and quality of experiences, taxes and jurisdictions, net neutrality issues, and consumer choices.
  • Universal broadband: policy and regulation convergence and technology, 5G implementation, universal access requirements, models for universal access, implementation plans, broadband investments, and enabling regulatory environments.

The discussions will be summarised in a ministerial declaration, to be adopted at the end of the day.

The open conference will focus on the outcomes of the ministers meeting and provide an opportunity for the discussions to be shared with a wider stakeholder group within the international ICT sector on a broader range of issues, including ICT policy and regulation, 5G development, cybersecurity, opportunities and risks of AI, over-the-top services, online protection and safety, the digital economy, universal access and services, global infrastructure investments, spectrum, and data privacy.
