The Battle for the Global Internet
New America, DiploFoundation, and ISOC-DC will organise an event to discuss what the coming months might mean for Internet governance around the globe, in Washington D.C., US, on 27 September 2018.
From physical infrastructure, to the services that run on top of it, the Internet touches every debate around the world. Over the next few years, we will continue to witness a roll out of various policies at national, regional, and global levels, which will dictate the ways infrastructures, services, and the Internet operates. Titled ‘The Battle for the Global Internet’, the event aims to discuss related policy processes and key developments which are expected to shape the evolution and future of the Internet.
The coming months bring important processes including, the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), the ITU Plenipotentiary, ICANN63 Annual General Meeting, and the UN Secretary General’s High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation. Some of these processes will pose significant opportunities to codify principles of freedom, openness, interoperability, security, and resilience, while others pose serious challenges to proponents of the same.
Moderated by Dr Tereza Horejsova, project development director, DiploFoundation, the discussion will host Dr Jovan Kurbalija, executive director, secretariat of the UN Secretary General’s High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation, and Robert Morgus, senior policy analyst and deputy director, FIU-New America C2B Partnership, with more panellists to be announced.
