Security, cyberterrorism, and sustainable development were on the agenda of the G7 meeting in Japan, while the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers adopted the Internet Governance Strategy for 2016-2019. Following the Apple/FBI controversy last month, an increasing number of mobile apps and online services have turned on end-to-end encryption, while in Europe, the long-awaited General Data Protection Regulation was approved by the EU Parliament. What were the main Internet governance updates in April, and how will they shape future developments?
You receive hundreds of pieces of information on digital politics.
We receive them, too.
We decode, contextualise, and analyse them.
Then we summarise them for you.
Every last Tuesday of the month, the Internet governance briefings provide a ‘zoomed-out’ update of the major global IG and digital policy developments. They are delivered live from Geneva (WMO Building, 2nd floor, 7 bis Avenue de la Paix), and broadcast online. Local hubs in Rio de Janeiro and Jakarta will share regional perspectives: the Rio hub will be hosted by the Center for Technology and Society of the Getulio Vargas Foundation School of Law, at Praia de Botafogo, 190, 13th floor; the Jakarta hub will be hosted at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Ruang Serbaguna, Gd. Utama Kemkominfo, Jl, Medan Merdeka Barat no.9, Jakarta Pusat 10110.
The Internet governance in April 2016 briefing takes place on Tuesday, 26th April, at 11:00 UTC (13:00 CEST). Join us online, or in Geneva, or from any of the hubs; fill in the registration form to reserve your place.
The monthly Internet governance briefings are organised by the Geneva Internet Platform (GIP), a Swiss initiative run by DiploFoundation. Learn more about our monthly briefings and local hubs. To keep up-to-date with GIP events, subscribe to our mailing list. More information at gip@diplomacy.edu
