Computer Networks Histories: Local, National and Transnational Perspectives
The international conference ‘Computer Networks Histories: Local, National and Transnational Perspectives’ will be held on 14–15 December 2017, in Lugano, Switzerland. The event is organised by the association Geschichte und Informatik, The Institute of Media and Journalism & the China Media Observatory at the Università della Svizzera italiana, and infoclio.ch.
The three-day event will bring together scholars and researchers from a variety of disciplines working on theoretical and empirical analysis of computer network histories. Discussions will include, among others, case studies from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Oceania, as well as from international organisations dealing with control and management of networks. The aim of the conference is to contribute to the development of new frameworks and a space for discussion on the historical role of computer networks.
Some of the presentations to be delivered during the conference will be on topics such as regulations on transborder flow of data, concepts of sovereignty in Internet territories, the Internet and the web, from Internet access to political advocacy, pioneering network projects, and computer networks and copper cables.
