The Domain Name Association (DNA) is a non-profit global business association composed of groups, businesses, and individuals involved in the provision, support, and sale of domain names (including domain name regsitries, registrars, resellers, and registry service providers).
The aim of the DNA is to help consumers, business, public-benefit organisations, and other understand the benefits and take advantage of the Internet name space expansion. Through its activities, it promotes, advances, and supports the common interests of the industry with regard to the provision, adoption, and use of domain names. The association also works to educate Internet users around the world about the new generic top-level domains.
Activities undertaken by the Domain Name Association range from publication of statistics, studies, white papers, and other resources, to the organisation of events focused on domain name issues. One of the Association’s main initiatives is the Healthy Domain Initiative, under which recommendations are elaborated with a view to contribute to a healthy domain name systems. Such recommendations, which are voluntary, cover issues such as addressing online security abuse, complaint handling for ‘rogue’ online pharmacies, and enhancing child abuse mitigation systems. The Association has also set up the DNA University, whose aim is to establish a dedicated platform to facilitate the exchange of ideas, best practice menthodologies, and continued development of the industry’s combined expertise
