The International Criminal Police Organization

INTERPOL coordinates work of police forces from 190 member countries. The coordination is managed through a network of national central bureaus in member states.

The Internet growth brought cybercrime and cyber-enabled crimes in the focus of Interpol’s activities. Interpol’s initiatives in the area of fighting such crimes focus on: operational and investigative support, cyber intelligence and analysis, digital forensics, innovation and research, capacity building, and national cyber reviews.

The following bodies deal with cybercrime:

• The INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation, located in Singapore, is dedicated to the detection and prevention of digital crimes.
• The Cyber Fusion Centre (CFC) brings together cyber experts from law enforcement and industry to gather and analyse all available information on criminal activities in cyberspace to provide countries with coherent, usable intelligence.

Interpol also deals with Internet crimes against children, and it runs several initiatives in this area: development of a victim identification network and the coordination of international operations (an International Child Sexual Exploitation database has been set up in this regard), monitoring of websites to develop the ‘worst of’ list of sites that are illegal in all countries, and working with Internet Access Service Providers to block access to sites containing child abuse material.
