Accessible Americas: Information and Communication for All

28 Nov 2016 - 30 Nov 2016

Mexico City, Mexico

The third edition of the conference ‘Accessible Americas: Information and Communication for All’ will be held on 28-30 November 2016, in Mexico City, Mexico. The event is organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and will be hosted by the Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones.

The purpose of the event is to encourage governments, industry, academy and other stakeholders to promote information and communication technology (ICT) accessibility in order to create fair and equal opportunities for PwD and support a regional development agenda by treating ICT accessibility for persons with disabilities as a cross-cutting development issue.

The conference will focus on the importance of promoting accessibility policies; motivate policymakers of these policies, regulators and industries; and encourage all the stakeholders concerned to work together for the expansion and inclusion of accessibility in all processes: legal framework; public access to ICTs; mobile communications; television and video programming accessibility; accessibility of the web, mobile, and public procurement of accessible ICTs.  A training programme aimed to improve and reinforce participants’ knowledge on these issues will also be delivered in the framework of the conference.

The target audience for the event includes representatives of academia, civil society, public authorities, and industry (especially developers of content, applications, and devices) in the Americas region.
