Africa Regional WSIS Follow-up and Annual Review & EGM on Emerging Issues in ICT Meeting – 2016
The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa will organise an Africa Regional WSIS Follow-up and Annual Review & EGM on Emerging Issues in ICT meeting, on 22-24 November 2016, at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The objective of the meeting is to asses the progress that African countries are making in achieving the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society, in general, as well as the emerging issues in ICT in support of the implementation of the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. To this aim, the meeting will review progress in Africa on each action lines of the WSIS outcomes, and will discuss challenges encountered in the region in mainstream ICT for development, with specific reference to the implementation of the Africa Union’s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations’s Agenda 2030.
The three-day meeting will include sessions on: the rise of the financial technology industry in Africa and the increasing challenges for cybersecurity; an All-of-Africa indicator framework for ICT measurement; IPv6 transition; and emerging Internet governance issues.
