Freedom of Expression Online: Evolving European Jurisprudence and Standard Setting Activities in the Digital Age

The Supremen Court of Cyprus, in cooperation with the Council of Europe, will organise a conference on Freedom of Expression Online: Evolving European Jurisprudence and Standard Setting Activities in the Digital Age, on 18 April 2017, in Nicosia, Cyprus.

The event is held in the framework of the Cypriot Chairmanship of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, and it is aimed to provide representatives of the judiciary from member states, European judges, media experts, civil society, and the private sector with an opportunity to reflect on contemporary challenges surrounding freedom of expression online, as well as to exchange experiences regarding the application of human rights and rule of law standards to an environment of constant technological evolution. 

The programme of the conference will include three panels on: freedom of expression online in the light of Strasbourg case-law and related standard-setting activities, the role and responsibilities on Internet intermediaries, and contemporary challenges to the freedom of expression.
