G20 The Innovation and Research Ministerial Meeting 2021
The G20 Innovation and Reserach Ministerial Meeting 2021 is one of the ministerial meetings organized as part of the G20 Leaders Summit 2021, and will be hosted on 5 and 6 August in Trieste, Italy.
The ministerial meetings are organized independently from the Summit, where the Heads of State and Government endorse some of the key outcomes achieved by the Ministers. The Innovation and Research Ministerial Meetings will be held with a ‘back-to-back’ formula and a joint segment. The Innovation Ministerial meeting will be co-chaired by Minister of Economic Development Giancarlo Giorgetti and Minister for Technological Innovation and Digital Transition Vittorio Colao. The Research Ministerial will be chaired by Minister of University and Research Cristina Messa.
Under the Italian Presidency, G20 will focus on three broad, interconnected pillars of action: People, Planet, Prosperity. Within these pillars, the G20 aims to take the lead in ensuring a swift international response to the COVID-19 pandemic – able to provide equitable, worldwide access to diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines – while building up resilience to future health-related shocks.
