Humanitarian ICT Forum 2017

21 Mar 2017 - 22 Mar 2017

Mountain View, California, USA

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster will organise the 2017 edition of the Humanitarian ICT Forum on 21-22 March, athe the Google headquarters in Mountain View, California, USA.

The Forum will be held under the theme ‘Empowering Affected People’ and will focus on how humanitarian organisations and information and communications technology (ICT) companies can work together to improve and streamline digital payments and community engagement. Topics to be tackled during the two-day event include: using social media for two-way communications with affected communities; direct cash transfers via mobile phone networks; establishing and expanding digital payment infrastructure; big data best practices; digital identification; peer-to-peer payment systems in humanitarian emergencies; and operationalising the mobile and satellite industry connectivity charters.

Humanitarian organisations and ICT companies will engage in discussions on priorities and challenges in humanitarian work, and will exchange knowledge and best practices in using ICT for humanitarian emergencies.
