MIKTA Workshop on Electronic Commerce

[Update] Event report:

The full-day workshop focused on digital trade and implications for developed and developing countries. E-commerce was discussed in connection with the World Trade Organization agenda, as well as for essential support services such as transport, logistics, delivery services and financial services.

Discussions also touched upon data flows and data localisation, and consumer protection and privacy, and set the stage for further analysis and potential cooperation on these topics.

Event announcement

The Permanent Mission of Mexico, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Turkey, Australia (MIKTA) to the World Trade Organization (WTO) will host a Workshop on Electronic Commerce, on 5 July 2016. The workshop will be held at the WTO headquarters, in Geneva, Switzerland.

The workshop will feature discussions on a wide range of issues related to e-commerce and the digital economy, clustered in three main sessions on: E-commerce and the digital economy: trends in trade & trade policy – how far we have come and what next?; E-commerce, development, and SMEs; and Issues at stake: data flows, privacy, cloud computing, data localisation and consumer peotection. Participants will include, among others, permanent representatives to the WTO, as well as officials and experts from organisations such as the WTO, the International Trade Center, the World Economic Forum, the United Nations Commission on Trade and Development, the Geneva Center for Security Policy, and Consumers International.
