WAIGF – West African Internet Governance Forum 2019
The 11th edition of the West Africa Internet Governance Forum (WAIGF) will take place on 25-26 July 2019 in Banjul, Gambia.
Building on the definition of Internet governance as the development and application by governments, the private sector, academia, and civil society, in their respective roles, of shared principles, norms, rules, decision-making procedures, and programmes that shape the evolution and use of the Internet; the WAIGF aims to promote Internet governance issues in West Africa through a multistakeholder process.
The theme of the 2019 edition will be ‘Shared responsibilities of stakeholders for a robust Internet Governance Ecosystem’ and with the following sub-themes:
- Multistakeholderism in the Internet governance ecosystem
- Data governance across borders
- Media and content
- Access and infrastructure beyond
- Digital rights and freedom of expression online.
