RansomHub hackers publish part of stolen Change Healthcare records
The records contain personal information about patients, including medical records, billing files and insurance records.
RansomHub, a fresh ransomware syndicate, has exposed personal and medical records taken from Change Healthcare during a cyberattack earlier this year. These records, containing sensitive patient information, are being exploited for extortion purposes against Change Healthcare.
This development comes after Change Healthcare reportedly paid a $22 million ransom to another ransomware group, ALPHV. However, ALPHV vanished after receiving the payment, leaving the stolen data susceptible to further misuse. Earlier this month, RansomHub claimed that it had the stolen data in its possession and threatened to expose it unless another ransom is met.
The US Department of Health and Human Services is conducting an inquiry to ascertain whether this breach breaches HIPAA regulations regarding the protection of individuals’ health information within the healthcare sector.
