Apple slated to launch Digital Legacy feature
According to a report, Apple is launching the Digital Legacy program, which allows a friend or family of the deceased to access their digital information stored in iCloud. Apple recently launched the Digital Legacy web page, on which those who have been shared ‘Legacy Contact Access Key’ by the deceased can request access to data. Previously, the next of kin of the deceased had to obtain a court order that designated them as the rightful inheritor of the deceased’s personal information before Apple can hand over the data.
Legacy Contacts will not be able to access everything as certain types of content are encrypted within the device. For example, iCould Keychain, payment information, subscriptions, and licensed media would not be accessible by the Legacy Contacts.
