The US Government meets with tech companies to discuss combating terrorism and extremism online
Senior US government officials have met with representatives of leading technology companies, in order to discuss about ways of ‘working together to combat terrorism and counter violent extremism online’. According to Reuters, the meeting was described as ‘a “technological brainstorming meeting” to look at ways to make it harder for violent extremists to use the Internet to recruit support or to plan attacks’. The White House also announced the launch of two new initiatives to counter violent extremism (CVE): the Countering Violent Extremism Task Force (aimed at integrating and harmonising domestic CVE efforts), and a Global Engagement Center (focused on international cooperation with other governments and non-governmental actors.
