Uganda to begin in-country production of identity documents
The government of Uganda will begin printing e-passports, driving licences and other security documents will be produced within the country. This follows the establishment of the Uganda Security Printing Company-(USPC), a joint venture between the state-owned Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation and Veridos GmbH, a German firm. USPC was created about a year ago and is in the process of completing a factory in Entebbe, Uganda. Since starting operations in March 2021, the company has issued over 24,000 driving licences, a number that is set to increase as the government of Uganda digitalises its services.
