The National Police of Ukraine (NPU), together with the Security Service of Ukraine, have taken down fraud ‘call centres’ that stole cryptocurrencies from domestic and EU citizens. According to the NPU, the cybercrime group used high-tech equipment and software that made their phone numbers appear as state banking institutions when calling victims. It was also found that these ‘call centres’ created websites where they would trade cryptocurrencies, gold, and oil to attract foreign citizens. Finally, members of the group would pretend to offer help to victims to return their stolen cryptocurrencies in exchange for money. National authorities have seized all the equipment from the group and investigative actions are being conducted.
