77% of global retailers hit by ransomware attacks in 2021
The Sophos report found that 77% of global retailers were hit by ransomware attacks in 2021. Essentially, these attacks targeted respondents in around 31 countries, affecting their ability to operate and many lost their business or revenue.
According to the Sophos report, around 77% of global retailers were targeted by ransomware attacks. Namely, the report states that these attacks hit 422 retail respondents in around 31 countries. Most respondents said that such attacks affected their ability to operate and, in the worst case, they lost their business or revenue. While the number of attacks increased, data recovery was found to decrease. Namely, ‘the percentage of retailers who recovered their data decreased from 9% to 5%’. It is thus imperative that smaller retailers use threat detection and response to Managed Detection and Response (MDR) providers while also having regular backups.
