Tech coalitions write to US Senators Burr and Feinstein on their proposed anti-encryption legislation
Three tech coalitions representing major companies such as Microsoft, Google, Facebook, and Amazon, have sent an open letter to the US senators Richard Burr and Dianne Feinstein, who initiated a draft bill that would require companies to decrypt customers’ data at the request of a court. The letter underlines the signatories’ concerns about ‘unworkable policies around encryption that would weaken the very defenses we need to protect us from people who want to cause economic and physical harm’, and explains that ‘any mandatory decryption requirements […] will lead to unintended consequences’.
