Sunak proposes collaboration with businesses and hosting a global AI safety summit to harness the potential of transformative technologies and make Britain a preferred destination for tech businesses.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak warned Britain to act quickly to remain a tech capital. AI and other transformative technologies are rapidly shifting the tectonic plates of technology, and governments worldwide are attempting to find the balance between assessing and reining in the potential negative consequences of AI without stifling innovation.
Sunak argued that Britain must seize the opportunity to make Britain the best country in the world to start, grow and invest in tech businesses. He proposed that the government work with businesses to capitalise on opportunities presented by transformative technologies, such as AI, and that Britain should host a global summit on artificial intelligence safety later this year to consider the risks of AI and discuss how they can be mitigated through internationally coordinated action.
Sunak highlighted AI’s potential to revolutionise how we live and work, to improve healthcare, transport, education, and other areas of life. He emphasised the importance of acting quickly to remain a tech capital and to make Britain the best country in the world to start, grow and invest in tech businesses.
