Twitter implements limits on tweet reading, Elon Musk announces
In an effort to combat excessive data scraping and system manipulation, Musk introduced limits on the number of tweets that different accounts can read per day.
Twitter is implementing limits on the number of tweets that different accounts can read per day to discourage excessive data scraping and manipulation of the system. Elon Musk, the Executive Chair, announced these limitations on Twitter, stating that verified accounts were initially limited to 6,000 posts per day. Unverified accounts will have a limit of 600 posts per day, while new unverified accounts will be limited to 300 posts per day.
However, in a short span of time, Musk increased the temporary reading limits to 10,000 posts per day for verified users, 1,000 posts per day for unverified users, and 500 posts per day for new unverified users.
This decision was made to address the aggressive scraping of Twitter data by numerous organisations, which negatively impacted user experience. Musk also expressed dissatisfaction with AI firms like OpenAI for utilising Twitter data to train their large language models. Additionally, Twitter experienced an outage on Saturday morning, affecting thousands of users.
The platform has taken various measures, such as introducing verification check marks as part of the Twitter Blue program, to regain advertisers who left under Musk’s ownership and increase subscription revenue.
