Digital identity network Worldcoin created by the OpenAI CEO Sam Altman
Worldcoin will try to offer a reliable solution for distinguishing humans from AI online, while preserving privacy, enable global democratic processes, and explore AI-funded UBI
Sam Altman, known worlwide as a CEO of the OpenAI company that power a language model GPT, announced today that Worldcoin is launching its rollout. Worldcoin project will have the goal of creating a new digital identity and financial network that is accessible to everyone online. It will introduce the so-called ‘proof of personhood’ solution to tackle privacy of online data.
The project consists of a privacy-preserving digital identity called World ID, and a digital currency called WLD. The World ID allows individuals to prove their uniqueness online while maintaining their privacy, and the digital currency is received simply for being human. The project aims to increase economic opportunity, provide a reliable solution for distinguishing humans from AI online, enable global democratic processes, and potentially pave the way for AI-funded universal basic income (UBI).
The World App, (digital wallet for storing WLD tokens) can now be downloaded, and individuals can reserve their share by visiting an Orb, a biometric verification device, to receive their World ID. The distribution of Orbs is increasing globally, and individuals can find the closest one and book a verification appointment through the World App or worldcoin.org
