4iG and Telecom Egypt progress subsea cable project linking Albania and Egypt
Hungarian telecom company 4iG and Telecom Egypt collaborate on an ambitious project to establish an intercontinental subsea cable connecting Albania and Egypt. This partnership aims to boost global connectivity and stimulate economic development in the region
Hungarian telecom firm 4iG and Telecom Egypt have finalised terms for collaboration on constructing an express subsea cable linking Albania and Egypt. This agreement stems from a Memorandum of Understanding signed in October 2023. Both entities will form a joint venture to execute the intercontinental subsea cable project.
In a joint statement, it was revealed that the express subsea cable project will establish a high-capacity, intercontinental connection between Africa and Asia, spanning from Egypt through the Red Sea to Europe via Albania and the Mediterranean. The agreement was officially signed by the Chairman of 4iG and the Managing Director/CEO of Telecom Egypt in Budapest, Hungary, in the presence of high-ranking officials from both countries. Notably, this cable will be the first to link Albania and Egypt directly, offering a unique Mediterranean route that diversifies existing connections between Egypt, Italy, and France.
