Portugal has implemented a law to promote equal access to communication services
Portugal mandates telecom companies to ensure equal access for individuals with disabilities, requiring tailored equipment, software, and tariffs effective from June 28, 2025, aligning with EU accessibility directives to enhance digital inclusivity and equal opportunities.
Portugal is taking a big step towards promoting digital inclusion by implementing new regulations approved by Anacom. These regulations mandate that communication companies ensure equal access and choice for end users with disabilities. This means people with disabilities should have the same opportunities to access and use communication services.
Telecom companies will be required to provide accessible equipment, software, and tariffs tailored to the specific needs of each individual’s disability. These regulations will be effective from 28 June 2025, aligning with the EU’s directive on accessibility requirements for products and services. With these measures, Portugal aims to improve the accessibility and inclusivity of digital services, furthering the goal of equal opportunities for all.
