Tunisia to launch SMS Disaster Alert System
The Tunisian government in cooperation with GSMA will develop a mobile connectivity services to protect lives through a SMS Disaster Alert System that would alert citizens during major natural disasters. This is part of GSMA’s We Care initiative that helps citizens enjoy the transformative benefits of mobile technology in a safe and reliable environment. It aims to help Tunisia since it suffers regularly from natural disasters including flooding and torrential rains that result in loss of life and materials damage. Through this system, the Ministry of Interior will be able to provide instant targeted information before and during major natural disasters, and hence improve disaster preparedness and response. The service is expected to be in place before the next rainy season of 2020, likely to begin in September.
