EFF expresses concerns over right to be forgotten law in Uruguay
Members of the National Party of Uruguay has introduced in January 2020 a draft urgency law (Ley de Urgente Consideración) which, among many provisions, would establish the right to be forgotten. According to CPJ, this law would allow individuals who find online information about themselves that they consider “inadequate, inaccurate, outdated or excessive” to ask search engines to suppress it in relevant search results. In this context, the Electronic Frontiers Foundation has released a statement arguing that ‘Uruguay Steps Too Quickly into the Right to be Forgotten Quagmire’ For EFF, Uruguay’s government should not presume that implementing a so-called Right to be Forgotten is simple, and drop the attempt to a rushed adoption of an ambiguous and risky law.
