Hungary suspends certain GDPR protections
The Hungarian government announced suspensions to certain regulations of GDPR until the COVID-19 pandemic is over. These include the suspension of Art. 15-22 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) dealing with individual data rights such as the right to access data, rectification, erasure, and the right to object. The governmental decree also eases the obligation of authorities to notify data subjects on the collection and processing of their data. The suspension is envisioned to last until the pandemic is declared over by the Hungarian government. These measures follow the Hungarian legislation from 30 March 2020 giving Prime Minister Orbán sweeping new powers under the state of emergency to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
