Slovenia to set up international AI research centre
The government of Slovenia plans to set up an international artificial intelligence (AI) research centre, endorsed by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The centre, to be established within the Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI) in Ljubljana, will focus on issues related to governance and policies surrounding AI, and provide advice to governmental entities and the general public on systems and strategic AI solutions. Other areas of work will include the development of training programmes, the creation of a network to exchange research and know-how, and providing support for the development of AI guidelines and actions plans around the globe. It is expected that UNESCO will grant its final approval for the creation of the centre in November 2019.
