German government delays decision on 5G rollout
The Angela Merkel government has delayed making a decision on applicable security rules for Germany’s 5G which may prevent Huawei from being eligible to deploy equipment. The United States has increased pressure on Germany about Huawei and the German government intends to bolster technical certification and scrutiny of telecom suppliers without specifically excluding any particular operator. A recently drafted proposal may exclude Huawei if accepted by the government but a decision is expected to be made during January 2020.
