US government launches a multistakeholder process on IoT security
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) of the US government has formally launched a multistakeholder process on the Internet of Things (IoT) security upgradability and patching. The overall aim of the process is to develop a broad, shared definition or set of definitions around security upgradability for consumer IoT, as well as strategies for communicating the security features of IoT devices to consumers. NTIA further explained that the ultimate objective of the initiative is to foster a market offering more devices and systems that support security upgrades through increased consumer awareness and understanding. As part of this process, a first meeting was held on 19 October.
