Crypto scientists found that vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication technology is easy to misuse

Connected cars that communicate with other vehicles or transport systems to improve safety and traffic flow can easily be tracked, a security researcher has shown.

In an experiment undertaken on the campus of the University of Twente, two wireless sensing stations were able to pinpoint a target vehicle nearly half the time, according to Jonathan Petit, Principal Scientist at Security Innovation, a software security company. The connected car protocol, proposed by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), uses the Wi-Fi-like 802.11p wireless signal and could allow cars to communicate with both each other and with highway infrastructure like roads or bridges.
