China’s President calls for cyber-sovereignty and global governance of internet security
Addressing the second World Internet Conference (WIC), held in Zhejiang province in China, China’s President Xi Jinping invited countries not to undermine each other’s national security and respect cyber-sovereignty. He reminded of the Chinese position of a need for a global multilateral governance model that would protect Internet security. The speech re-emphasises that the control of the Internet content and security is one of the key priorities of China today. The 2nd WIC is attended by several heads of states including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation states, and takes place at the same time as the Review of the WSIS process within the UN General Assembly in New York.
