WhatsApp blocked in Chad
The Facebook owned WhatsApp messaging service has been blocked in Chad according to a network data shared by the NetBlocks Internet observatory. Real time metrics confirmed the outage on cellular networks Airtel and Tigo Tchad with the restrictions specifically targeting WhatsApp’s backend and frontend servers. No explanation has been provided by authorities to justify the outages and no technical faults have been confirmed as well. However, according to the report, the restrictions came just when the International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced further support of USD$68.49 million to enable the Chadian government to offset losses incurred from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
