Human Rights Watch expresses privacy concerns over expansion of facial recognition systems in Russia
In a report, the Human Rights Watch (HRW) has expressed concerns over the expansion of facial recognition systems in Russia. Russian authorities are planning to expand the use of close circuit TV (CCTV) cameras with facial recognition technology (FRT), despite weighty concerns about the lack of regulation, oversight, and data protection. According to HRW, CCTV cameras with FRT will be installed in ten pilot cities across Russia by regional authorities in public spaces and at the entryway of apartment buildings.
