Facebook subject to two lawsuits for anticompetitive practices
The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and 48 states and districts announced legal action against Facebook for its anticompetitive practices. Two lawsuits focus around Facebook’s acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp, claiming that these were a part of a systematic strategy to eliminate threats to Facebook monopoly. The lawsuits seek as a part of remedy for this anticompetitive conduct that Facebook divests in Instagram and WhatsApp. According to CNBC, FTC lawsuit alleges that ‘Facebook holds monopoly power in the U.S. personal social networking market.’ Additionally, the FTC will ask to ban Facebook from imposing anticompetitive conditions against third-party software developers.
