New privacy complaints filed against “RTB” adtech practices
Digital rights organisations from six EU countries have lodged complaints with their data protection authorities about the behavioural advertising industry’s practices, known as ‘real-time bidding’ (RTB). This action has been co-ordinated by the Civil Liberties Union for Europe (Liberties), Open Rights Group (ORG), and the Panoptykon Foundation. The organisations and countries involved in this action are the AsociatiapentruTehnologie si Internet (Romania), D3 – Defesa dos DireitosDigitais (Portugal), GONG (Croatia), the Global Human Dignity Foundation (Malta), Homo Digitalis (Greece), and the Institute of Information (Cyprus). These new complaints follow previous complaints made in 15 other EU countries during 2018 and 2019, which called for immediate investigations into RTB systems, and to enforce EU data protection laws.
